Bogdanka breaks another daily output record!

Thursday, 2019-12-12

The most modern and efficient hard coal mine in Poland has broken another record of output per day from a single ploughed wall. On 23 October, section G-1, operating on panel 4/II/385 in the Bogdanka Field, extracted as much as 33,612 tonnes of coal, progressing by 28.3 metres per day. Extraction was conducted throughout four shifts with the plough operating for nearly 24 hours. By achieving this, section G-1 broke the previous record of daily output amounting to 25,413 tonnes of coal set on 31 July 2019 by section G-4.

Panel 4/II/385 is the fourth to be explored with the use of the ploughing system Bogdanka 4. It currently operates on a wall which is 313.5 meters long and between 1.2 to 1.7 meters high. Its support system consists of 178 mechanised lining sections which are 1.75 meters wide. The record was broken by section G-1 led by Łukasz Babiracki.

“Our efficiency stands out in the industry, and our aim is continued work on achieving operational excellence, so we do not rest on our laurels but persistently search for new solutions that would further improve extraction and other areas of the Company’s activities. Setting a new daily output record was possible mainly thanks to the determination and commitment of section G-1 employees. It is a wonderful, experienced team, specialising in excavation of low seams with the use of the ploughing system, whose work has contributed to improving the efficiency of the ploughing technique employed at Bogdanka” - said Artur Wasil, President of the Management Board of LW Bogdanka S.A.

G-1 makes one of three panel sections working on excavation by ploughing. Since its forming in October 2009, it has emptied 6 panels with a total length of over 20 kilometres. Their work was done in various areas of the mine and in varying mining and geological conditions.

Bogdanka persistently improves its efficiency. This year, apart from the abovementioned daily output records, the Company also broke the monthly output record – the miners of Bogdanka extracted 903.5 thousand tonnes of commercial coal in January 2019, thus beating the output record achieved in December 2014. In July 2019 section G-4, operating in the Stefanów Field, reached monthly progress on a longwall excavated by the ploughing technique of 432 running meters, breaking the previous record of 413 running meters set in January 2012 in section G-1.
